Why you need a Videographer
So you are thinking about hiring a wedding videographer, but you aren’t sure it’s worth the money. I can assure you, it’s absolutely 100% worth hiring a professional wedding videographer at your wedding.
I put an emphasis on professional… hiring your family friend’s cousin Eddy “that owns a camera” might be cheaper, but to be blunt, you get what you pay for. Just because someone owns a camera does not mean they are qualified for the job. Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life this far, and you should treat it as such.
And you may be thinking “when will I ever have the time to sit down and watch my wedding video? I’ll remember everything.” You won’t. I’m telling you, the day flys by and you’re being pulled in so many directions. You will not remember every single thing that happens.
Hiring a videographer to capture your memories will ensure that you remember every single detail. Plus a good videographer will give you a beautifully edited wedding film will make you feel like you are transported right back to your wedding day everytime you watch it.
Not to mention there are so many parts of the day you aren’t present for that you will now get to watch. For example, you and your partner are most likely getting ready in seperate spaces, so now you can hear their conversations and watch them nervously get ready.
The “DIY” video
For years now, our phones have been able to capture beautiful high-quality video. It’s honestly never been so easy to capture your memories with your camera on you at all times.
If you want to hire cousin Eddy, be super specific with them on what your goal is and what you are looking for them to film. And ask them: do they plan to use their phone? Will it be on a tripod? Or do they have some camera equipment? These are all questions that will help manage your expectations.
Whether it’s a friend helping you out or cousin Eddy that is doing it for a small fee, the final video will never compare to a professional. You spend weeks, months, maybe even years planning your wedding day; you deserve to have it captured properly.
Finding your Professional Videographer
The first step in looking for any wedding vendor is determining your budget. In the Greater Boston area, videographers can range anywhere from $3500-$9500. You may be experiencing sticker-shock, and I totally understand. You are paying for experience, professional equipment, and peace of mind.
So you have your budget set. Now you’re ready to start researching, but there are so many different styles of filming and editing out there, so you’re probably wondering “where do I start?”
1. Ask your married friends.
Asking your friends who have already been through this is the easiest way to start a list of potential vendors. If your friend absolutely loved their videographer, maybe reach out and get a quote.
2. Ask your Venue
Most venues have a list of Preferred Vendors who have worked there in the past. They might not be your style or be out of your budget, but it’s a great place to start.
3. When it doubt, Google it
Google wedding videographers in your area or search on The Knot/WeddingWire. Make sure you read reviews, both good and bad!
So, have you made a decision yet?
If it’s going to matter to you 10, 20, 30 years from now, then make sure it’s exactly what you want, whatever that looks like for you. Just remember, you’re investing in your memories.
Someday this will be priceless to you; whether its the day a relative is no longer with you and you can hear their voice or the day you’re finally able to share your wedding with your kids or grandkids.
